Caboolture sits just south of the coast, twenty to thirty minutes down the Bruce Highway from our Caloundra end, and enough of our work now comes from its streets that the town has earned its own page. It is a different market from the beach suburbs: an established country town at the core, acreage along the river valley, and new estates filling the paddocks between, and all three of those Cabooltures buy exposed aggregate for their own reasons.
The old town, resurfaced
Caboolture’s core carries some of the oldest housing stock we work on, and its original driveways went in decades ago as plain grey because nothing else was on offer. Renewal jobs here are deeply satisfying: the tired slab broken out, the base rebuilt properly, and a washed stone surface that lifts a renovated Queenslander or brick home the way a repaint never quite can. The warm, natural end of the stone library suits the town’s timber and brick character best, and the texture hides what big old gardens drop.
River flats and acreage runs
Along the Caboolture River the blocks stretch out, and with them the driveways. Acreage work here follows the hybrid pattern we use across the hinterland: structural plain concrete for the long run where nobody looks, exposed aggregate for the entry, apron and house court where everybody does, quoted as one job. The river-flat ground is alluvial soil over clay that holds moisture and moves between seasons, which is a base preparation and joint layout question, settled at the measure per the finish standard.
Inland heat, chosen for
Caboolture summers run hotter than the beach, without the sea breeze to take the edge off. That pushes surface choice toward paler blends that shed heat, especially on alfresco slabs and around pools, and it moves summer pours to early morning starts so the wash window lands before the worst of the day. The published rates apply here exactly as on the coast, driveways $135 to $150 per m2, and the travel south is our routine, not your problem.
City of Moreton Bay and the crossover in Caboolture
The City of Moreton Bay writes its crossover rules into its planning scheme rather than a standalone permit system, and it puts the crossover squarely on the property owner: construction, maintenance and repair of the strip between the road and your boundary are yours, including the kerb and channel where the scheme requires it.
The assessment works by zone. The owner self-assesses the proposed crossover against the accepted development requirements the planning scheme sets for the property’s zone, general residential, rural and rural residential each carrying their own set, with the detailed design requirements sitting in the council’s integrated design policy. A crossover that meets those requirements can be built on that basis. One that does not, wrong width, geometry or position for its zone, needs a concurrence agency referral lodged with the council and its fee paid, and the council’s written approval must be in hand before construction starts. Around Caboolture and Morayfield the zoning shifts quickly between residential streets and rural residential blocks, so the same driveway can be assessed quite differently one road over; we confirm the zone and the path that applies at the site measure, and your quote states it in writing.
