Pool surrounds

Exposed aggregate pool surrounds on the Sunshine Coast

The surface between water and house. Slip-resistant washed stone in pale, heat-shedding blends, detailed around coping, drainage and the fence line.

Nowhere does a surface earn its keep like the two metres around a pool. It is walked barefoot and soaking wet, it bakes in full sun, it takes salt or chlorinated splash daily, and it is in every photo the backyard ever appears in. Exposed aggregate is the standard answer on the coast for exactly those reasons.

Grip where it matters most

Washed stone holds wet feet the way trowelled concrete and glazed pavers cannot, without the harshness of a brushed slab. Surrounds are washed to a fine, even reveal, textured enough to grip, smooth enough for a towel-dried afternoon on the edge. The seal is a wet-area matte that preserves that grip rather than coating it away.

Cool, pale, deliberate

Heat decides more pool surrounds than looks do. The pale blends in the stone library, pearl whites, sands and soft greys, reflect rather than store the sun and stay walkable through January. They also do what pool areas want visually: lift the light, flatter the water and read as one calm surface rather than a grid of pavers.

Detailed, not just poured

A surround is the most detailed slab on the block. Falls run away from the pool so garden runoff and storm water never wash into it. Joints are planned around the coping and the fence posts rather than through them. Edges meet frameless fencing, coping stones and the lawn line cleanly. This is finish carpentry in concrete, and it is priced and programmed as such.

What it costs

$140 to $180 per m2 supplied and installed, the span reflecting how cut up the area is and the access to it. The cost guide has worked examples, and the estimator gives a working range for your measurements. Every figure is a guide until the site has been measured; the written quote that follows it is the number that holds.

Before you decide

Exposed aggregate pool surrounds, answered

What does an exposed aggregate pool surround cost?

$140 to $180 per m2 supplied and installed. Pool surrounds price above open slabs because the work is cut up, curves, coping lines, drainage details and tight access around an existing pool all take time. Most surrounds run 15 to 35 m2. Every figure is a guide until the site has been measured; the written quote that follows it is the number that holds.

Is exposed aggregate slippery around a pool?

It is one of the better wet-area surfaces available. The washed texture grips bare feet even soaked, which is the reason it is so common around Queensland pools. The seal is chosen for wet areas too, matte rather than gloss, so the surface keeps its grip as well as its colour.

Does it get hot in the sun?

Dark surfaces do. Around water we steer the choice toward the pale end of the library, whites, creams and sands, which shed heat noticeably better than charcoal blends and keep midday walking comfortable. It is the first question we settle for any surround that faces north.

Can you pour around an existing pool?

Yes. Replacing tired pavers or cracked concrete around an established pool is a routine job. Levels are matched to the existing coping, drainage is corrected while the ground is open, and the pool stays protected and usable through the work apart from pour day itself.
